QWA School Aged Championships Wrap-up

The 2024 QWA State competition year was kicked off with a very successful QWA School Age Championships in Nambour at the Sunshine Coast Weightlifting Club over the weekend of the 23-24th March. 64 athletes registered for the event. Personal bests were re-written all round.

A huge shout-out to SCWC for their fabulous hospitality across the weekend.

Thank you to SCWC member Scott Friend for organising a live-feed of the action on the weekend – he was able to report that we had viewers from NZ, USA & Malaysia viewing our fabulous young protegees.

It was fantastic to see a number of our Olympians at the event: Deborah Acason, Erika Yamasaki and Matthew Lydement.

A big shout out to our fantastic QWA Management Committee members out there leading by example in the volunteering space at the event. Fraser Harrison AAG Chairperson, Bonney Douglas, Callum Hannay and Jemma Cowper all pitched in to load to keep the event rolling along. Thank you!!!

Those of you in attendance were able to share in the celebrations as we farewelled our most loved Volunteer Lesley Moyle as she moves interstate. A perpetual trophy the “Lesley Moyle Volunteer Award” was unveiled during the weekend.

Congratulations to Nicole Deans (SCWC) on her successful upgrade to State Level Referee at the event. In her preparation for this Nicole had refereed at a minimum of 5 different competitions, passed her theory exam and her practical assessment.

Thank you to the TO mentors hard at work over the weekend supporting additional Club level referees, Scott Friend, Cydelle Hayman & Jarrad McCarthy as they progress along this same pathway.
