MQS for State Junior/Senior State Championships 2026

As we move to yet another change to bodyweight categories you will find information on how this effects you as an athlete here:

To be eligible to compete at the State Junior/Senior Championships in 2026 you will need to have achieved the new qualifying total applicable to the bodyweight category you are entering by 22 August 2026. Results achieved in the period 8 August 2025 to 1 August 2026 where they meet the standards of the new qualifying total in your comparable bodyweight category are sufficient for the purposes of entering the State Junior/Senior championships.

Example:

A female lifting in the current 58 kg category of the Seniors would have needed 101kg to enter the State Seniors – the corresponding new category for this lifter would be the 57kg category and attract a MQS of 108kg. If the athlete has achieved the updated MQS of 108kg already in the qualifying period despite not actually lifting in the new 57kg class, the total they achieved will be accepted for the new bodyweight category and not require additional qualifying attempts.

The QWA will monthly from the end of May email athletes who have successfully achieved the necessary MQS advising of their achievement in reaching the qualifying standard and suggest that they register to compete as soon as possible as there is the very real possibility that numbers will need to be capped for sessions to fit into the scheduled event dates. This may mean that all those who qualify are not automatically guaranteed an entry into the event.

To assist members with the risks (illness, injury, work schedules, family commitments) of payment for early entries, registered athletes can request a refund of their entry fee by email to qwa@qwa.org as long as that is received no later than midnight 23 August 2026.
