QWA Management Committee

Following on from consultation with Clubs and members in 2019 around the development of the new QWA Strategic Plan 2020-2025.  Work now begins on meeting our  identified goals and outcomes. The QWA Management Committee have taken the first step in this process in offering Mike Keelan a consultancy role that will focus on the development of resources that will escalate the growth of Queensland Weightlifting.

To ensure there is no perceived conflict with this arrangement, Mike Keelan has lodged his resignation from his position as President of the QWA Management Committee. He will now work collaboratively with the QWA MC to attain outcomes detailed in the QWA’s current Strategic and Operational Plans.

Stepping up to fill the role of President in the interim will be fellow Management Committee member Rawena Tairi. The AGM of the QWA will now be brought forward earlier in the year to the 8th March so that permanent appointments can be made.

EOI are sought to fill positions on the 2021 Queensland Senior Championships Organisation Subcommittee to be led by MC member Damon Kelly. Please respond via email to qwa@qwa.org by the end of this month. This group will work together to investigate locations, funding options and the presentation of the event.

Volunteers needed for upcoming competitions

The use of volunteers to run competitions helps the QWA keep the cost of participating low. As recent volunteer numbers haven’t been great we are insisting that if you compete in a competition you volunteer for a minimum of 1 session of the competition – paying volunteer efforts forward. We will be confirming at your weigh-in what role you have signed up for.

Remember all levels of Referees can officiate at the upcoming 2020 Physique Science QWA League and 2020 Q Masters incorporating Oly in the Outback. Just add a comment in the sign-up schedule if you would like to have a more senior referee sit with you.

All QWA members can complete the online QWA Referee training free-of-charge by logging into their QWA account. Even if you do it just to improve your own knowledge of the rules until you feel comfortable on taking on a more formal role.
