2026 State Junior & Senior Championships Wrap-up!

What a fabulous long weekend of weightlifting! 132 athletes took to the platform over the 3 days of competition. Numerous personal bests and records were set and broken over the weekend. It was fantastic to see a couple of our Commonwealth Games athletes return to the competition platform so quickly after competing in Glasgow. Bronze medallist Nya Hayman, and Ryven Ewing!Huge thanks to the Cougars Weightlifting Club team led by Scott Robinson for hosting the event so well, and a special mention to the catering staff led by Cydelle Hayman and the Bradshaw family for keeping everyone fed over the weekend.

We had 4 of our Weightlifting Olympians attend over the weekend: Erika Yamasaki competed, coached, took on official TO duties and handed out medals; Brandon Wakeling competed and coached; Matthew Lydement coached, and coming in Sunday Deborah Acason coached and volunteered. Thank you all!!!

Athletes who have qualified for the National Junior & Senior Championships are reminded that entries close online Wednesday 30th September. Additional reminder – a QWA Representative lift suit is required to compete in this event – no additional stocks to what are in the shops now will be coming in. If you can’t buy one you will need to organise to borrow one. Additionally, you will need a minimum of a QWA t-shirt. All – Queensland Weightlifting
