VALE Nick Ciancio
It is with great regret to inform everyone associated with the OWF, that the sport of weightlifting has lost one of the greatest weightlifters of all time.
Nicolo Cianco (Nick)— was a man whose presence filled every room, whose energy lifted those around him, and whose passion for weightlifting, and for life itself, left a mark on everyone who knew him.
Nick was a lively character in the truest sense. He lived boldly, spoke with conviction, and carried himself with the unmistakable confidence of someone who knew exactly who he was. His personality was as strong as the lifts he became famous for, and just as unforgettable.
As an athlete, Nick’s achievements were extraordinary. He represented Australia at the 1972 Olympic Games, a moment of immense pride not only for him but for all who supported and believed in him. He was a dual gold medallist at the 1970 and 1974 Commonwealth Games, and he competed at multiple World Championships, standing among the very best in the world. These accomplishments weren’t just medals or titles — they were the result of relentless dedication, discipline, and a love for weightlifting that ran deep in his bones.
Nick will be remembered not only as the champion athlete, but the vibrant, spirited man behind the achievements. For his humour, his determination, his stories, his presence.
The OWF extends our sincerest condolences to his family. Their loss is immeasurable, and we hold them in our hearts as we honour the remarkable man they loved so deeply.
