In other news Weightlifting is set to return to the program of the World University Games in 2026.
The AWF will liaise with UniSport Australia to enable eligible weightlifters to compete in the 2026 FISU World University Weightlifting Championships. FISU Academic Eligibility Requirements:
Only the competitors who satisfy the following conditions may take part in a FISU events:
- students who are currently officially registered as proceeding towards a degree or diploma at the university or similar institute, the status of which is recognised by the appropriate national academic authority of their country; or former students of the institutions mentioned before, who have obtained their academic degree or diploma in the calendar year preceding the event;
- be a national of the country they represent;
- be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on 31 December of the year of the event (age range specified in the FISU regulations and entry forms of the concerned Event)
AWF Qualifying Requirements:
- Qualifying period: 22 Feb – 31 May 2026
- Minimum Standard: Senior International
- Financial conditions: self-funded

2026 Oceania Championships (Senior, Junior, Youth) and/or Commonwealth Junior & Youth Championships and/or Universal Weightlifting Cup Tournament
The AWF has announced the athletes and Team Support Personnel who have been endorsed by the AWF for nomination in the Preliminary Entries for the 2026 Oceania Championships (Senior, Junior, Youth) and/or Commonwealth Junior & Youth Championships and/or Universal Weightlifting Cup Tournament, being held at Apia, Samoa, on 25th April – 2nd May 2026.
The athletes who will represent Australia at these events will be selected and announced prior to the event Final Entry deadline, according to the AWF Athlete Selection Policy.
