February News – State Masters location…

STATE MASTERS

Thank you all for your patience as we worked through finding a suitable venue for our 2026 State Masters Championships.

We are thrilled to be able to announce that the 2026 State Masters Championships will be held at United Barbell Club Bundaberg. At the moment the event is on the calendar to cover 3 days 10, 11, 12th April. We will only know once entries have closed off if we will need to use the Friday. Entries are now open: COMPETITION Please remember to factor into your travel plans the need to volunteer for at least one session to assist in the running of the event.

Reminder: To be eligible to compete at State Masters you need to have lifted in a competition during the Qualifying period of 3 May 2025 – 7 March 2026. Starting weight of 21kg for women & 26kg for men is required at State Masters.

If you are unable to compete at the State Masters event you will need to apply for an exemption https://www.qwa.org/exemption-request/ to be eligible to compete at the National Masters Championships in Adelaide 10-14 June noting the requirement of having to lift in at least one event as per AWF Qualification requirements: https://www.awf.com.au/Portals/0/resources/corporate/policies/high-performance/2026%20AWF%20Events%20Calendar%20with%20MQS.pdf?ver=otrljkTWCfg-8Qs2QuSdOA%3d%3d .

Management Committee update:

The QWA Management Committee wish to advise the membership of the resignation of Paul Walters as Treasurer of the QWA. Jan Greyling has been co-opted from the Finance Committee by the Management Committee to fill this vacancy to comply with the requirements of the Incorporations Act.

The QWA has an additional Management Committee member position vacant. We are in particular seeking someone with skills in:
