The St Laurence’s College Weightlifting Club is located in walking distance of the Brisbane CBD, in the Southbank precinct at the South Brisbane campus of St Laurence’s College, a Christian Brothers College for boys. Recently established on the mezzanine level of Brady Hall, the weightlifting gymnasium has four training platforms and a range of equipment for lifting and strength assistance exercises. SLC Weightlifting Club hosted the 2003 Qld All Schools Championship at which the club shared the team trophy with Toowoomba State High School. Currently, the weightlifting gymnasium is utilised by many of the 1200 students involved in strength programs supporting the many sports offered by the college such as rugby and athletics. In addition, Olympic Weightlifting is taught as a semester unit to Senior HPE students. The club’s goal is to continue to promote the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, offering support to athletes from other disciplines, and provide training from accredited coaches and competition opportunities for a core group of dedicated lifters.
