Lawrie

NBWA’s Honorary Life Member, Lawrence Townsend, has devoted his professional physiotherapist services to weightlifting for more than thirty years.  Lawrie’s passion for the sport has flown into his voluntary work with the Honeybadgers’ Club since its inception in 2004 - as an official, athlete and assistant coach.   

To recognise his commitment to the sport, the Club deemed it fit in 2005 to name its most anticipated annual end of year function “The Lawrie Townsend Christmas Competition”.   Out of further respect Lawrie’s exceptional contribution to the sport, the club’s most prestigious individual lifting honour was also named in his honour.  NBWA athletes continue to strive towards winning the coveted “Lawrie” trophy, which is judged on competition performances and overall lifting improvement throughout the year.
