This NCAS accreditation course is suitable for anyone engaged in instructing
athletes in the techniques of Weightlifting and Power Training.
The course will cover programming principles; coaching methodology; principles of power development; progressive resistance principles; exercises to develop technique and power; warm-up and stretching techniques; lifting techniques; progressive development of technique; safety principles.

At the completion of this Training Program, coaches will be able to:
· Plan, organise and conduct safe, enjoyable and progressive training and competition programs for athletes engaged in weightlifting and power training.
· Improve the skill levels of athletes commensurate with the athlete’s aspirations and subsequent enjoyment of involvement with weightlifting and power training.
More specifically:
· Teach athletes to exert maximum force by maintaining stability and balance throughout all execution phases of the various exercises.
· Understand and appreciate the fundamentals of good, efficient weightlifting technique.
· Develop a model of efficient weightlifting technique by which to evaluate their athletes.
· Understand and appreciate the biomechanical principles upon which the recommended technique is based.
· Understand the basic principles of weightlifting technique.
· Develop an ability to assess an athlete’s individual technique.
· Identify and correct common faults in technique.
· Provide athletes with appropriate feedback.
· Teach correction exercises
· Teach and correct the skills of important assistance exercises.
· Teach and correct breathing techniques.
· Discuss factors that surround female involvement in weightlifting and weight training.
· Identify the physical, physiological and psychological differences between male and female athletes.
· Understand the qualities of strength, power and hypertrophy and how to assess and develop them.
· Understand proprioception and how to assess and develop it.
· Understand the role of plyometric training in the development of power.
· Maximise power development.
· Produce a power training program in accordance with the athlete’s needs.
· Integrate functional core exercises into a weightlifting/power training program to initiate good posture and injury prevention.
The Course Presenters have over 50 years combined experience in the fields of Weightlifting and Power Training, working with Elite athletes in Track & Field; Rowing; Football Codes; Netball; Baseball; and Swimming.

Confirmation of registration, map of the venue, course timetable and receipt will be mailed to participants on receipt of registration.
Qld Weightlifting Association reserves the right to cancel this event if minimum numbers are not met.
Places on the course are limited and will be filled on a first in basis.
